Price of tomatoes shoot up to Rs 155/kg, highest in Kolkata among metros

As per the data maintained by the consumer affairs ministry, tomatoes were being sold at a price range of Rs 58 to 148 per kg in metro cities. In the Purulia area of West Bengal, the vegetable was sold at Rs 155 per kg.

By India Today News Desk: The retail price of tomatoes shot up to Rs 155 per kg across major cities in India on Tuesday, as per the official data. As per the data maintained by the consumer affairs ministry, Kolkata recorded the highest price of tomatoes with the vegetable sold for as much as Rs 148 per kg.
In the Purulia area of West Bengal, the vegetable was sold at Rs 155 per kg.


In the metro cities, retail tomato prices ranged from Rs 58-148 per kg, with the highest in Kolkata at Rs 148 per kg and the lowest in Mumbai at Rs 58 per kg. In Delhi and Chennai, tomatoes were priced at Rs 110 per kg and 117 per kg, respectively.
The data by the consumer affairs ministry showed that the average all-India retail price was Rs 83.29 per kg, with a modal price of Rs 100 per kg.
In Delhi, local vendors are selling tomatoes in the range of Rs 120-140 per kg, depending on the quality and locality. On online grocery shopping applications like Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart, the price of tomatoes was over Rs 140 per kg.
